       The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF), Department of Zoology, D. M. College of Science, Imphal was established on 4th June, 2008 under the sponsorship of Department of Biotechnology (Bioinformatics Division), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government or India vide order No. BT/B1/12/042/2007 dated 11th February 2008. The Centre is a part of a scheme entitled "Establishment of Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) for Promotion of Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI)" under the Biotechnology Information Service Network (BTISnet) program of the Department of Biotechnology. BIF Centre is one of 61 such centres spread throughout the country and 26 in the North-Eastern region. D. M. College of Science, Imphal is one of the 15 established BIF centres in the North-East India. Bioinformatics centres in the NE are under the North East India Bioinformatics Information Network (NEBINet).


Major Research Activities in Bioinformatics and its Related Fields

  • Provide trainings on bioinformatics with various aspects of Biological sciences.

  • Conducting Training & Workshops for Life Science faculties and research scholars on Bioinformatics.

  • Hands on training on “Basics of Bioinformatics” final year B.Sc. students of the department of Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Biochemistry.

  • Provide theory and hand- on training on Bioinformatics to students of M. Sc. Zoology and Botany.

  • Students undertake their M.Sc. project works (dissertation) in this Centre.

  • Provide online e-journals to faculty members, research scholars and the teachers.

  • The Centre also provides free online Delcon journals to access for teachers and students.
